About Newtownards

As the largest town in the Ards Borough, Newtownards has experienced a period of rapid growth in recent years, which is epitomised by its bustling city centre and an array of new residential developments.

Offering the peace and quiet of a semi-rural town, perfectly balanced with an abundance of amenities and attractions, Newtownards is regarded as one of the prime places to live in Northern Ireland, with the average house price being £205,535. Its close proximity to Belfast means it is perfect for the daily commuter who prefers the solace of a quieter place to live. Many attractive homes enjoy the appeal of unrivalled idyllic seaside or rolling countryside views. There are 37 pre-schools, nurseries, primary and secondary schools in Newtownards, including three integrated primary schools and one integrated college.

The town centre is a hive of activity, where a warm welcome is the order of the day. Independent retailers line the town’s Main Street, while Ards Shopping Centre houses familiar names such as TKMaxx, Argento and Boots. Eateries are plentiful, with a variety of palettes catered for. From Asian cuisine to modern dishes and stylish wine bars, the needs of locals are effortlessly met.

Or, if you’d prefer to take things at a slower pace, the area boasts spectacular beauty, ready for exploring. Mount Stewart, a National Trust Park, lies just outside the town centre; there are also Kiltonga Nature Reserve, Scrabo Country Park and the Floodgates, perfect for the keen rambler or those who enjoy paddle boarding and water sports.
