Veterinary Surgeon – Milton Keynes
£55,000 to £80,000 depending on experience | 4 day week | 1 in 4 weekends
We are looking for a small animal vet to join our team in Milton Keynes. This is a well established, busy practice that has recently been completely refurbished and expanded, with a real focus on making it a better place to work as well as improving patient care.
The practice is owned and run by Huw and Steph Morgan-Jones. Huw is an RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Surgery with a strong interest in orthopaedics, and Steph leads on the operational side of the business. The aim has always been to build a practice that combines excellent clinical standards with a supportive and well organised working environment.
The practice
This is not a standard first opinion set up. The recent expansion has created a large, well equipped clinical space designed around workflow; a hospital feel that is a family.
Facilities include:
• GE - CT on site
• Ultrasound, endoscopy and laparoscopy
• Dedicated imaging suite
• Separate dog and cat wards and 2 x isolation
• Double dental suite
• In house physiotherapy and hydrotherapy
• Dedicated pharmacy and full back office support
The idea is simple. We've invested in the environment you need to focus on your clinical output; giving you the time, support and equipment to work cases up properly.
The role
We are now looking for a vet with around four or more years UK experience who is confident with routine medicine and surgery and wants to keep developing.
• 4 day working week
• 1 in 4 weekends. No OOH
• Regular vet meetings with a clinical and quality focus
You will be encouraged to manage your own cases, follow them through and use the facilities available. There is support when you need it from your colleagues, the Head Vet and Senior Vet, but also the freedom to work things out for yourself.
The team
We currently have a team of 9 vets with a mix of experience and interests.
• Certificate holders in medicine, ECC and surgery
• Strong surgical caseload including orthopaedics
• A collaborative approach to cases
• A practice that puts time into training and development
It is a team that talks things through and challenges each other in so we can all improve without making a big performance of it.
Development and future opportunities
We are keen to support people who want to progress.
• Support for certificates
• Opportunity to develop your own areas of interest
• Genuine potential for partnership in the future
This is something we have already done within the practice and would be open to again for the right person.
What we are looking for
Someone motivated, passionate and easy to work with.
You do not need to have a certificate or even want to work towards one. You do need to care about being part of a passionate team doing a great job and who want to keep improving.
Rewards & benefits
- £55,000–£80,000 base (DOE). Certificate holders and Advanced Practitioners attract an additional pay uplift.
- Quarterly bonus (team and individual components)
- 4 weeks’ holiday plus bank holidays and your birthday off
- £2,500 CPD + 5 days; full support for certificates
- RCVS, VDS, BVA fees paid
- Enhanced maternity pay (13 weeks full pay + 13 weeks at 50%)
- Pets at Home retail discount and broad lifestyle benefits; company pension
Life in Milton Keynes
Yes, we have concrete cows and roundabouts. We also have 4,500 acres of green space, lakes, theatres, a snow dome, climbing and indoor skydiving, plus quick links to London (≈40 mins) and Luton Airport (~25 mins). The roundabouts mean less sitting in traffic and more actually getting places.
How to apply
Curious? Email huw.morgan-jones@vetsforpets.com for a confidential chat or to apply. If you’d like to speak to Huw informally about the role or partnership pathway, we’ll set that up.
If this brief sounds close but not quite, we also expect vacancies for vets with 1–5 years’ experience as our expansion completes. Feel free to reach out.
